Elkstone Studios

Material choices were carefully curated to celebrate this converted barn's agricultural history. An entire farmyard was immaculately converted into a thriving new workspace hub known as Elkstone Studios, alongside a  food hall, cafe, retail outlets, a fitness area and event zones, designed to offer permanent office space or flexible co-working space to multiple businesses. 

Thanks to the skillful design work of Blake Architects, the raw unpretentious form and appearance of the barns has been retained whilst contemporary elements have been woven in to achieve the required functionality and appeal, giving an overall authenticity that is naturally in harmony with the wider landscape.

The exterior of the building features exposed stone with our weathered timber cladding, paying homage to the barns past. However, when partnered with contemporary glazing, creates a simple and modern reinterpretation of a barn aesthetic. The natural materials ensure a patina which brings interest and appeal to the staff and visitors as light, water, and shadow play.

Built by RAM Construction, the reimagined barn provides a space that honours the history, supports the present by creating huge rural employment opportunities, and stands ready to embrace the future.
